Gold Prospector in the Spotlight: Tyler Mahoney’s Rise from Aussie Bush to Global Fame
Tyler Mahoney might be one of the few women regularly seen on Gold Rush, but she’s far more than a rare presence. The fourth-generation gold prospector has carved out her own niche in a historically male-dominated industry, becoming both a beloved television personality and an advocate for mental health and self-empowerment.
Her story is one of tradition, tenacity, and television.
From Aussie Goldfields to International TV
Tyler first appeared on television in 2018 through Aussie Gold Hunters, gaining early recognition in Australia. She joined the series for its third and fourth seasons before opting out in 2020. “I just didn’t want to do it anymore,” she said during an Instagram Live, adding that the decision was mutual for her and her family.
That move set the stage for her breakout on the global stage. Tyler soon joined Parker Schnabel in Gold Rush: Parker’s Trail, appearing in both the Australian and New Zealand seasons, as well as in the original Gold Rush and its behind-the-scenes show, The Dirt.
Despite initial rumors about a romantic connection with Parker, Tyler clarified they’re just friends. She’s been in a relationship since 2021 with Jake Bennett, whom she often credits as a supportive presence amid her demanding schedule.
Life Beyond the Camera
Tyler isn’t just a reality TV star—she’s a businesswoman, author, and mental health advocate.
In 2019, she launched The Prospectors Club, a subscription-based service offering prospecting tips, mining laws, safety guides, and exclusive insights for aspiring gold hunters. It celebrated its three-year anniversary in 2022 and remains active online with merchandise and an educational blog.
She also once operated a swimsuit and accessories brand, May by Tyler, which has seen quieter days recently but still maintains an online presence.
In January 2023, Tyler released her memoir Gold Digger, a candid and colorful account of life in the goldfields. The book offers readers a glimpse into both the gritty and glamorous sides of the industry, with stories that range from humorous to harrowing.
Mental Health and Advocacy
Beyond business, Tyler has used her platform to speak out about mental health. She was diagnosed with bipolar disorder after years of undiagnosed symptoms and self-medication. Her podcast Let’s Unpack That, though no longer updated, featured a powerful debut episode where she discussed her journey with mental illness—beginning with anxiety at 17 and culminating in a transformative path toward acceptance and healing.
On social media, she continues to openly discuss mental health, self-esteem, and the pressures of fame.
Home and Heart in the Goldfields
Although Tyler now splits her time between Australia and international mining hubs like Calgary and Boulder, her heart remains in her hometown of Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. Her rigorous travel schedule—sometimes home for just two months a year—hasn’t stopped her from staying connected with her roots.
With fans around the world and new projects always in development (including a still-mysterious shoot in South America), Tyler Mahoney continues to be a leading voice in both gold prospecting and women’s representation in the industry.
Her journey may have started in the red dirt of the outback, but her impact is undeniably global.
