New Chapter in the Goldfields: Kevin Beets Launches First Independent Mining Operation
Scribner Creek, Yukon — After more than two decades under the command of mining legend Tony Beets, Kevin Beets is finally striking out on his own. Setting up three miles east of Scribner Creek, Kevin and his partner, Faith, have launched their first solo mining venture with a bold goal: 1,000 ounces of gold by the end of the season.
“I want to run it a little different than what we’ve had to deal with in the past,” Kevin said during the crew’s first official meeting. “You don’t have to like it, but I don’t want you to dread it either.”
The fledgling operation has recruited a fresh-faced crew: Brennan is overseeing the cut, Matt is on excavator duty, while Hunter and Chase are behind the wheels of the rock trucks. Spirits were high as they rolled out the first equipment—much of it borrowed from Kevin’s father.
However, as is tradition in the Yukon goldfields, things quickly went sideways.
Trouble in the Cut
Rock truck rookie Hunter Cannon was barely a few loads in when mechanical issues struck. “I can’t get up this hill whatsoever,” he reported. “I’m spinning out. I’m gonna burn it.” The issue? A faulty differential lock caused by broken air lines—another legacy problem from Tony Beets’ aging fleet.
Kevin, already frustrated by inheriting what he jokingly called “Tony’s sloppy seconds,” had to step in for a quick repair. “When it finally grenades, it’s now my problem,” he said, replacing the busted airline on-site. Fortunately, the fix was simple, and Hunter was soon back to hauling.
A Strategic Upgrade
Recognizing the limitations of his equipment, Kevin made a strategic move—purchasing a used rock truck from fellow miner Parker Schnabel. Though the 21-year-old vehicle isn’t brand new, it’s a significant upgrade from what Kevin had been using.
Parker, ever the shrewd businessman, held firm on his price of $110,000. “I don’t haggle,” he said bluntly. “Buy it or don’t buy it.” Kevin agreed to the deal with a deferred payment later in the season, cementing what could be a crucial turning point for the operation.
The Road Ahead
With upgraded machinery and a team ready to prove themselves, Kevin Beets’ new mining venture is officially underway. There’s dirt to move, gold to sluice, and pressure mounting with every passing day.
“I’m excited to get started mining,” said Kevin. “We’re finally making progress. Let’s see what this land’s got.”
Only time will tell if the younger Beets can carve out his own legend in the unforgiving Yukon goldfields—but one thing’s certain: the dirt’s flying, and the race for gold is on.
