New Hire Taven Faces Setbacks and Challenges After Departure from Parker’s Crew

Taven Peterson, a former member of Parker Schnabel’s gold mining crew, has been given a second chance in the mining world after his abrupt dismissal from the popular Discovery Channel show. However, his new journey has been anything but smooth sailing, as he now works under the supervision of Kevin Beets at the Scribner Creek mine, where his first night shift quickly became an adventure of its own.

A Tough Goodbye to Parker’s Crew

Taven’s departure from Parker’s team came after what appeared to be a clash of personalities. During a candid conversation with his supervisor, Taven was let go, with his attitude being called into question. Taven, known for his confidence and self-assuredness, was reprimanded for boasting about his work speed and his tendency to disregard instructions. His blunt responses during the conversation reflected his frustration with the situation, but the end result was clear: Taven was out of a job with Parker, left to look for new opportunities elsewhere.

A Fresh Start Under Kevin Beets

Despite the tough exit from Parker’s crew, Taven is determined to turn things around. He quickly found new work under the watchful eye of Kevin Beets, one of the most seasoned miners in the industry. Taven started working the night shift at Scribner Creek, running the wash plant with a small crew that includes veteran gold miner Rick.

The transition hasn’t been easy, but Taven seems eager to prove himself. “I’m really enjoying it here,” Taven said. “Already got put on the wash plant, which I’m really excited about. Everyone’s been super welcoming and teaching me a lot.” Taven’s pride in his work is clear, as he takes his new role seriously, determined not to make the same mistakes again.

A Rocky Start: Major Setback on First Shift

Things quickly went sideways on Taven’s first night shift when a large rock slipped through the grizzlies, a set of metal bars designed to filter large boulders and protect the plant. The rock, which was far larger than usual, blocked the hopper, halting production. With no time to waste, Taven and his team sprang into action.

“Looks like a big rock got through the grizzlies. I don’t know how they managed to make their way through,” Taven said. The team quickly came up with a plan: they dug a tunnel beneath the 100-pound boulder, wrapped a chain around it, and used the grizzlies’ hydraulic system to lift and free the rock.

While the situation was chaotic, the crew’s quick thinking and teamwork helped get the wash plant running again. Despite the early setback, Taven’s ability to problem-solve under pressure impressed his colleagues.

“Not bad for his first night,” said Kevin Beets, who praised Taven’s quick thinking and the team’s effort to get the plant back up and running. “The priority number one is keeping the plant going 24/7, and we’ve been doing pretty good at that,” Beets continued.

Big Payoff: Gold Recovery at Scribner Creek

After two weeks of running the plant nonstop, the crew finally got the moment they were waiting for: the gold weigh-in. Kevin Beets, who had been working the Sphinx cut, was hoping for at least 200 ounces of gold. When the numbers came in, they exceeded expectations. The weigh-in revealed 245 ounces of gold, worth a whopping $876,000.

This marked Kevin’s best gold recovery of the season, an 80-ounce increase from the previous week’s haul. With gold prices at record highs, the crew’s hard work paid off in a big way. Parker Schnabel, whose operation has already netted over $20 million in gold this season, continues to make impressive strides in his own gold mining operations.

A New Chapter for Taven

As Taven continues to find his footing in the gold mining world, his journey serves as a reminder of the tough nature of the industry. While his time with Parker’s crew may have ended abruptly, he is proving that he is not ready to give up just yet. With a newfound opportunity at Scribner Creek, Taven is determined to avoid repeating past mistakes and prove that he can be an asset to the team.

“I’m just looking around, seeing who’s willing to hire a new gold miner,” Taven said, reflecting on his next steps. “I love gold mining and I can’t afford to go home yet.” With the support of his new colleagues and the lessons he’s learned from his past mistakes, Taven’s story may just be beginning.

The Future of Scribner Creek

As for Kevin Beets and his crew, the season continues to look promising. With a solid haul of gold already secured and more mining ahead, the crew is gearing up for another productive season. Taven’s future at Scribner Creek may still be uncertain, but with hard work and dedication, there’s no telling where his mining career will go next.

As the team continues to mine in one of the most competitive industries in the world, their ability to adapt and overcome obstacles, both big and small, will be key to their success. For now, Taven is focused on proving himself, and he knows that the road ahead won’t be easy. But with determination and a fresh start, he’s ready for whatever comes next.
