Parker and his crew discovered the largest gold find of the season.
After months of intense work, financial strain, and backbreaking effort, 27-year-old gold miner Parker Schnabel is finally reaping the rewards at the notorious Mud Mountain site — and in a big way.
Schnabel and his crew, featured on Discovery’s Gold Rush, have uncovered a rich vein of gold in the latest downstream cut at Mud Mountain, resulting in their biggest gold haul of the season — a staggering 873.65 ounces, worth over $1.5 million USD.
“It’s just wild how much effort and stripping went into it,” said Parker. “Every hour of sluicing probably represents a thousand or two thousand dollars worth of stripping.”
Despite the massive success, Parker admitted it was a gamble to center the season on one massive cut. “Probably should know better than trying to rest most of your season on one cut,” he reflected. “But who knows, maybe it’s there, maybe it’s not.”
Tyson Lee Pushes the Limits at Promised Land
While Parker focused on Mud Mountain, plant boss Tyson Lee was battling his own odds four miles away at the Promised Land site. Facing limited time and workforce, Lee proposed an innovative solution: elevate the wash plant on a raised pad, allowing tailings to fall away naturally and reducing the need for labor-intensive cleanup.
“We’re stretched thinner than ever this year because of Mud Mountain,” said Parker, giving Lee the green light. “Whatever you can do to stay self-sufficient is best.”
If successful, Tyson’s design could free up crew members and double output in the final push of the season.
“Bad” Cut Pays Off Big
In a surprise twist, what was initially named the “Bad Cut” produced strong returns. The final cleanup from the area came in at 277.05 ounces, nearly $500,000 in value. The team joked that cut names like “Good,” “Bad,” and “Ugly” might need rethinking, as the “Bad” cut outperformed expectations.
Next up is the so-called “Ugly” Cut — double the size of the last and not yet stripped — with just four weeks left in the season. The pressure is on.
A Historic Week for Big Red
Big Red, Parker’s prized wash plant, shattered records this week. Following a 596-ounce cleanup just days ago, this week’s total came in at a jaw-dropping 873.65 ounces.
“This is the best week of Red’s history from day one,” Parker said. “Let’s do this again next week.”
With the season’s end looming, Schnabel’s gamble on Mud Mountain appears to be paying off. The question now: can the team keep the gold coming?
