Parker Schnabel has strengthened his Yukon mining operation by recruiting experienced crew members and bringing a second major wash plant online at Dominion Creek, marking a significant step in his push for higher gold totals this season on Gold Rush.
Strategic Hiring
Schnabel confirmed he has hired Kaden Foote, a key operator and mechanic who previously worked for Kevin Beets. The move follows earlier recruitment of foreman Brennan Ruault, further deepening the rivalry between the two operations.
“Having people with experience up here is a huge benefit,” Schnabel said during the hiring process, noting that familiarity with Yukon conditions reduces costly learning curves.
Industry observers note that skilled labour remains one of the most competitive factors in modern placer mining, where mechanical downtime can rapidly erase profit margins during the short northern season.
Sluicifer Returns to Work
At the Dominion claim, site boss Tyson Lee oversaw the relocation and setup of “Sluicifer,” the 45-ton wash plant that has historically been central to Schnabel’s production.
The plant was hauled approximately 100 feet uphill into position on the Golden Mile cut. Once mounted and aligned, the crew brought it online for its first run on Dominion ground.
This marks the first time Schnabel has operated two full wash plants simultaneously on the property — a milestone intended to accelerate weekly gold output.
Overcoming Mechanical Setbacks
Operations were briefly disrupted when the wash plant known as “Bob” lost power due to generator issues. A replacement generator was quickly installed, restoring processing capacity before significant downtime occurred.
The rapid response underscored the importance of backup systems in remote mining operations, where delays can translate directly into lost ounces.
Strong Weekly Results
At the weekly weigh-in, Bob delivered 161.8 ounces — an improvement over previous performance. Sluicifer added 112.1 ounces from its first three days running the Golden Mile.
Combined weekly production reached 273.9 ounces, valued at just under $1 million at current gold prices. Season totals now stand at 399.7 ounces, positioning the operation for continued growth as additional equipment comes online.
Schnabel indicated that a third plant could be operational within weeks, potentially increasing output significantly if the Dominion ground continues to perform.
“We really need a third,” he said, signalling his intention to scale further.
With two plants now processing and a strengthened crew in place, Schnabel’s Dominion expansion represents one of the most aggressive operational pushes of his recent seasons — and raises the competitive pressure across the Yukon gold fields.
