At the Dominion mine in the Yukon, Parker is orchestrating operations across multiple cuts while emphasising efficiency and team accountability. “A big key to hitting our gold this year is getting plants running as early as possible and keeping them running,” he said. “People need to understand what the responsibilities and expectations are, and they need to be met.”
To achieve this, Parker has tasked his two lieutenants with pushing production to new levels. At Sulphur Creek, Mitch Blaschke is working a two-acre cut, stripping away layers of soil left behind by previous miners in search of remaining gold pockets. The cut stretches nearly half a mile, demanding constant attention from the crew. “It’s a lot on everybody’s plate each day, but we’re making good progress here at Sulphur,” Parker reported.
Meanwhile, Tyson Lee is overseeing two massive cuts at Dominion: the 114-acre Bridge Cut, where wash plant Bob is already sluicing, and the new 52-acre Golden Mile, where preliminary drill results suggest up to $12 million in recoverable gold. This year, Parker plans to run four plants across the property, marking one of the most ambitious setups in the show’s history.
Challenges quickly arose as Tyson navigated the complexities of getting Sluicifer, the key wash plant, back online. A hiccup occurred when Cayden, a new crew member, accidentally sunk an excavator hoe while preparing the Golden Mile setup. Parker and his team worked quickly to free the equipment. “Without this road being reactivated, we can’t get Sluicifer up and running,” he explained.
