Pressure Builds as Parker Schnabel, Tony Beets and Rick Ness Fight the Clock
As winter approaches in the Yukon, Gold Rush Season 16, Episode 16 highlights the intense pressure facing three of the region’s biggest mine bosses: Parker Schnabel, Tony Beets and Rick Ness. With only a short time left before the ground freezes, every ounce of gold has become critical.
Parker Schnabel’s season appears strong with more than 7,000 ounces of gold already mined, worth over $23 million. However, his operation faces a major challenge at the Golden Mile, where valuable pay dirt remains trapped in the pit. To prevent future mining problems, Parker makes the difficult decision to shut down two wash plants and redirect crews to clear the remaining pay. The move could cost up to $750,000 in lost production each week, but Parker believes protecting the long-term future of the mine is more important.
Despite the effort, the week’s gold totals disappoint the crew. The Golden Mile delivers just over 53 ounces, though the operation still passes the 7,000-ounce milestone. With a 10,000-ounce goal for the season, Parker must now find another 3,000 ounces before winter shuts the ground down.

Meanwhile, Tony Beets continues pushing toward his 6,500-ounce target. After months of mechanical trouble at Paradise Hill, Tony’s son Mike finally gets his troublesome trommel running again. The machine delivers more than 120 ounces in its first successful cleanup, helping Tony’s operation move within about 500 ounces of the season goal.
For Rick Ness, however, the situation is far more difficult. His crew has mined only around 500 ounces so far, leaving them well behind their 1,800-ounce target. At the Valhalla cut, the team must still remove another 80 feet of overburden before reaching the gold layer below.
The pressure grows when mechanic Ryan Kent’s family visits the site, reminding him of the sacrifices involved in spending months away from home. After a serious conversation with Rick about the future of the crew, Ryan decides to stay and continue the fight.
With winter closing in and only weeks left in the season, the race for gold across the Yukon is becoming more intense than ever. For Parker, Tony and Rick, every decision now could determine whether their season ends in success or disappointment.
