Shock Exit, Failed Test Run, and a $1.5M Haul: Gold Rush Season Explodes Out of the Gate
The new mining season in the Yukon has opened with soaring gold prices, ambitious targets, and early-season turmoil for the crews of Gold Rush. Parker Schnabel, Tony Beets, and Rick Ness each face their own high-pressure battles as they fight for ounces, licenses, machinery, and reliable manpower.
Parker Launches a Four-Plant Gamble for 10,000 Ounces
Parker Schnabel gathered his top lieutenants, Mitch Blaschke and Tyson Lee, in his “map room” to unveil his most aggressive plan to date: running four wash plants simultaneously in a bid to break the 10,000-ounce barrier.
But a major obstacle looms. His Sulphur Creek water license expires in just 10 weeks, forcing the crew to mine fast or lose the claim entirely. Parker warns that underperformance won’t be tolerated this season as he brings in new hires and demands a “best of the best” crew.
The pressure intensifies as Mitch and Tyson split up to launch multiple operations across different sites — a setup both men admit will be exhausting and risky.
Tony Beets Strikes Early Gold but Loses a Key Man
Meanwhile, Tony Beets is off to one of the strongest starts of his career. His Early Bird Cut produced a staggering 417 ounces in just two weeks—worth roughly $1.5 million.
With the Beets family preparing their equipment and eyeing new opportunities, the optimism is abruptly disrupted when longtime hand Brennan informs them he has accepted a surprise job offer—from Parker Schnabel.
With no replacement in sight, the Beets acknowledge hitting their 2,000-ounce goal now becomes far more difficult.
Rick Ness Faces a Season-Defining Setback
On the other side of the Yukon, Rick Ness searches desperately for mineable ground while he waits on a water license. His hopes rest on Lightning Creek, where a fresh test run needed to produce at least one gram of gold.
The result: just 0.525 grams, barely half the target.
Rick calls it a “disaster,” admitting the crew may be left with “nowhere to mine” as the season stalls.
Near-Disaster at Paradise Hill: Beets Crew Rescues Rock Truck Driver
At Tony’s Paradise Hill, tension skyrockets when a brand-new $750,000 rock truck flips near a 200-foot drop with driver Graham trapped inside. Rescue crews work against time as the hillside shifts beneath the vehicle.
Graham ultimately escapes through a shattered window, shaken but unharmed. Tony downplays the damage, focusing instead on safety and keeping his crew intact rather than firing a shaken operator.
With one truck out of service, Tony’s son Mike now fights to keep the site on schedule and prove he can run the mine independently.
