Tony Beets Is Fighting To Not Fall Short Of His Season Goal For The SECOND TIME!
Paradise Hill, Yukon — In a nail-biting race against nature and time, veteran gold miner Tony Beets and his crew pulled off a dramatic finish to their five-month mining season—reaching and surpassing their ambitious 3,000-ounce gold target just as winter descended upon the Klondike.
After running heavy operations through his plant known as the Uppercut and banking over 2,600 ounces of gold, Beets found himself still 400 ounces short of his seasonal goal. With snow on the horizon and the ground beginning to freeze, Tony made a last-ditch gamble: to reprocess historic tailings left behind by old-time miners—gritty piles of dirt many had long since written off.
“We’re going to squeeze the last little bit of gold out of those tailings,” Tony declared, turning his attention to the abandoned gold-rich dirt. The plan? Run them through the shaker deck and screen plant for a final push toward the 3,000-ounce mark.
Initial results looked promising. Tony had already pulled 250 ounces from the tailings and estimated that just another 50 could close the gap. However, with time running out, mechanical failures threatened to derail the entire operation. A 20-year-old water pipe critical to running the trommel burst, cutting off the plant’s lifeline and triggering a frantic repair effort.
“If we’re not washing rocks, we’re not making any money,” Tony warned, as expert welder Cody rushed to install a patch under extremely wet conditions. With drainage nearly impossible and the pipe half a mile long, Kevin Beets ingeniously isolated the lower section of pipe using an uphill check valve—saving precious hours of downtime.
Despite the repairs, six inches of overnight snow blanketed Paradise Hill, forcing the crew to make a final call. “If we don’t shut it down right now, tonight sure be nothing but trouble,” Minnie Beets said, signaling the end of operations.
With the trommel powered down and the crew bracing for the season’s results, tension hung heavy over the weigh-in.
The Uppercut produced a strong cleanup of 351.36 ounces, valued at approximately $660,000. But it was the tailings—dirt many considered worthless—that held the season’s fate. In an unexpected windfall, the tailings yielded 83.1 ounces, smashing through the final goalpost.
In total, the Beets family hauled in 3,030.26 ounces of gold—worth an estimated $5.6 million.
“3,030 is better than 2020,” Tony quipped, beaming with pride. “Look how lucky we got by checking out them old-timer piles. They left about 600 grand laying there on the ground.”
As the snow deepens and the machines fall silent, the Beets crew can rest easy knowing their season was not only salvaged—it was a success story built on bold moves, quick thinking, and grit. Once again, gold still glitters on Paradise Hill.
