Ultra-Rare Gold Nugget Found by West Australian Prospector Tyler Mahoney
A West Australian gold prospector was left speechless after encountering one of the world’s rarest gold nuggets—a remarkable find that has captivated enthusiasts worldwide.
Tyler Mahoney, star of the hit reality TV show Gold Rush, unveiled the extraordinary discovery on social media, expressing her sheer amazement at the rare specimen. The nugget, known as the INCA nugget, is an almost perfect hopper crystal—a naturally occurring pyramidal gold formation found in pristine condition.
The nugget was originally unearthed by a prospector in Queensland, who instantly recognized its uniqueness. Mahoney, who has spent her career searching for gold, was in awe when she first saw a photo of the find.
“I’m holding one of the world’s rarest gold nuggets. I will never ever hold anything like this again, and I’m a gold digger; I do this for a living,” Mahoney said in her social media post.
“When I saw a photo of this, my jaw dropped to the floor. This is insane—it is one of the rarest types of gold nuggets in the world.”
Determined to acquire the exceptional piece, Mahoney entered a bidding war against another prospector. After an intense competition, she successfully secured ownership of the nugget.
“If I had found something like this, I would have never got over it,” she admitted. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime find—this is a collector’s edition nugget.”
What makes the nugget particularly rare is its structure. Unlike most gold nuggets, which are smoothed over time due to water erosion, this specimen retained its sharp, geometric formation.
“This just does not occur in nature like this,” Mahoney explained. “Those perfect straight lines, almost perfect rectangles—shapes like that don’t naturally occur, and that’s what makes it so rare.”
Recognizing the immense value of the nugget, Mahoney put it up for auction, offering collectors and gold enthusiasts the chance to own a piece of history. The nugget ultimately fetched an astonishing $15,000, a testament to its rarity and significance in the gold prospecting world.
Mahoney’s discovery has reignited excitement in the prospecting community, proving that even in the modern age, incredible treasures are still waiting to be unearthed.
