From Explosive Mishap to Moonshine Master: What Really Happened to Daniel Maner?
Daniel Maynor: From Backyard Still to Moonshiner Stardom
A Quiet Mechanic Turned Moonshine Maestro, Daniel Maynor Captured Hearts and Respect in Discovery Channel’s Moonshiners Universe
The Rise of a Modern Moonshiner
Daniel Maynor may have started as a humble mechanic in Sevierville, Tennessee, but his roots ran deep into the Appalachian tradition of moonshining. When he joined the hit reality series Moonshiners, Daniel quickly became a fan favorite—admired for his calm demeanor, loyalty, and authentic distilling know-how.
Introduced in Season 7, Episode 11 (2017), Daniel was recruited by longtime friend Mike Cockrell to help fulfill a massive moonshine order. Though hesitant at first due to the risks, Daniel’s passion for the craft reignited instantly. “Just the smell of the mash brought back memories,” he said. But his return to the woods wasn’t without drama.
A Dangerous Comeback
During his first distilling session in years, a faulty setup led to a still cap exploding—an accident that could’ve ended in disaster. Thankfully, no one was injured. The mishap reminded Daniel of the perilous nature of the trade, but it didn’t shake his resolve. By night’s end, he and Mike had 10 gallons of moonshine and a rekindled friendship—at least temporarily.
Betrayal and Brotherhood
Daniel’s journey wasn’t always smooth. In Moonshiners Season 9, he suffered a serious back injury that sidelined him from work. As financial difficulties mounted, Mark Ramsey and Eric “Digger” Manes surprised him with a generous gift: four boxes of moonshine worth around $1,200. The gesture wasn’t just financial—it was deeply personal.
In contrast, Mike Cockrell never checked in. “Mike dropped him like a hot potato,” said Digger. Mark added, “He’s not from around here. We take care of our own.” Their kindness cemented Daniel’s bond with the mountain community—and distanced him from Mike.
From Illicit to Legit: The Master Distiller Chapter
Daniel’s reputation earned him a spot on Moonshiners: Master Distiller, a spin-off focused on legal craft distilling. In Season 3, Episode 10, he faced off against Mike Cockrell and Josh Owens in a high-stakes family recipe competition. Judged by Digger, Mark, and guest Danielle Parton, the event tested the heritage and skill behind each contestant’s moonshine. Daniel emerged victorious—proving that tradition and talent can stand the test of time.
He later returned in Master Distiller: Tournament of Champions in 2022, going head-to-head with some of the industry’s biggest legends. Viewers saw a new side of Daniel: confident, competitive, and truly masterful.
A Life Beyond the Camera
Off-screen, Daniel leads a grounded life. He’s married to Kimberly Patrick, an admissions coordinator at Smoky Mountain Post Acute and Rehabilitation Center. The couple, high school sweethearts from Sevier County High School, married in 1999 and have two children: Dalton and Skyler. Despite his television fame, Daniel keeps his personal life relatively private, earning admiration for his humility.
Legacy in the Making
Daniel Maynor exemplifies the evolution of the moonshiner—from outlaw to artisan. Whether crafting spirits in hidden stills or showcasing his skills in televised competitions, he represents the old ways with modern pride. His journey reflects not just the preservation of a fading Appalachian tradition, but also the power of loyalty, respect, and authenticity.
