Kenny Law, 68, Leaves Behind a Timeless Legacy in the World of Moonshiners
Everett “Kenny” Law, best known for his role on Discovery Channel’s Moonshiners and his family-run Law’s Choice Distillery, has passed away at the age of 68.
The Virginia-based distiller’s passing was confirmed by Law’s Choice Distillery in a heartfelt Facebook post on Wednesday, January 15, which read:
“With sorrow, we announce that Everett ‘Kenny’ Law passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. We will share his obituary as soon as possible. Thank you to everyone for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers.”
According to his cousin and business partner Henry Law, Kenny had battled several health challenges in recent years, including heart problems and diabetes, and was recently hospitalized with a blood infection. No official cause of death has been released.
Kenny Law joined Moonshiners in its eighth season, quickly becoming a fan favorite for his humor, grit, and deep respect for the Appalachian distilling tradition. The long-running docuseries, now in its 14th season, follows a group of modern-day moonshiners carrying on a 200-year-old craft handed down through generations.
Following news of his passing, the Moonshiners production team released a statement:
“We’re deeply saddened about Kenny Law’s passing. He was a treasured member of our Moonshiners community since season eight. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. Shine on, Kenny.”
Fellow Moonshiners star Amanda Bryant also shared an emotional tribute on Facebook, writing:
“Last night we lost a true legend, Kenny Law from our Moonshiner family. You will be dearly missed. It was an honor to know you and call you my friend. Rest easy, big guy.”
She added, “Prayers for the whole Law family during this time. They are dear friends of mine, and my heart breaks for each of them. Much respect to you always, Kenny.”
According to his obituary, Kenny was remembered as “a true outlaw – rebellious, fun-loving, charming, and tough as nails, yet soft-hearted toward those he loved.” A third-generation moonshiner, he followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, Owen Law, and lived a life full of adventure and near-misses that earned him the nickname “the cat with nine lives.”
Beyond fame and moonshine, Kenny’s proudest accomplishment was his family — especially his daughter, whom he often described as his “pride and joy.”
A visitation will be held on January 17 at Flora Funeral Service in Rocky Mount, Virginia, followed by funeral services on January 18 at Flora Funeral Chapel.
Kenny Law is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kenzie and Nathan Wright; grandsons Atlas and Fox Wright; brothers David Law and Ronnie (Suzanne) Law; cousin Henry Lee Law, who was like a brother to him; and many beloved aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
His spirit, legacy, and love for the art of moonshining will continue to shine on through his family, his fans, and the community that proudly called him one of their own.
