Richard Landry: An Award-Winning Distiller Featured in A “Moonshiners” Spin-off
Louisiana’s Own Richard Landry Turns Backyard Hobby into TV Stardom on Discovery’s “Moonshiners”
Richard Landry, a truck driver from Louisiana with a love for hunting, fishing, and making liquor, has quickly become one of the most beloved figures on the hit Discovery Channel series Moonshiners. Known for his bold flavors and infectious personality, Landry’s journey from viewer to award-winning distiller is a true Southern success story — one brewed with heart, heritage, and just the right amount of heat.
Landry’s story began in 2011, when he watched the first season of Moonshiners and became captivated by the underground world of homemade liquor. Inspired, he built his first still in his backyard and started experimenting with traditional Southern flavors. What started as a curious hobby soon turned into an obsession, with Landry dedicating years to perfecting the craft.
In 2019, Landry’s dedication paid off when he appeared on Moonshiners: Master Distiller, facing off against a third-generation moonshiner and a professional biochemist. With a cherry bounce recipe steeped in Southern tradition, Landry wowed the judges and walked away with the Master Distiller title — cementing his status as a rising star in the moonshine world.
By 2020, he was invited to join the main cast of Moonshiners, bringing along his younger brother Craig as his still hand. Together, the Landry Brothers quickly gained a fan following thanks to their colorful concoctions and family charm. From a Louisiana-style tea-based liquor to cotton candy-infused shine, their adventurous flavors earned Richard the nickname “The Spice King.”
Despite their growing fame, the brothers remain grounded. “This show is a blessing,” Landry has said, reflecting on his influence as the first African-American cast member. “It’s not just about liquor — it’s about showing people that anyone, from anywhere, can shine.”
Landry’s recent creations include the vividly red “Bloody Mary” liquor and several appearances on Master Distiller: Tournament of Champions and Season 12 of Moonshiners. His passion, humility, and creativity continue to make him a standout in a show that celebrates heritage, rebellion, and good old-fashioned ingenuity.
Catch Richard Landry and the rest of the gang on Moonshiners, airing on the Discovery Channel.
