Our Yorkshire Farm’s Amanda Owen fights tears after sad farm death ‘he didn’t suffer’
In an emotional repeat episode of Our Yorkshire Farm, Amanda Owen was seen fighting back tears as she broke some heartbreaking news to her kids
In a poignant repeat of Our Yorkshire Farm’s fifth series, which airs today, Amanda Owen was seen holding back tears as she broke devastating news to her children: their cherished horse, Little Joe, had died.
During the episode, originally aired in 2021, an emotional Amanda asked her young daughter, “So what do you think, Nancy?”
Responding innocently, Nancy said, “He was quite good,” to which a grief-stricken Amanda responded, “He was good, wasn’t he?”
As Nancy gestured towards another horse with concern, asking, “He loved everything that we did for him. Is that horse going to die?” Amanda reassured her by saying, “No, Tony is just young.”
Nancy continued to seek more clarity, asking: “What happened? Did he get old to die?”, reports the Express.
Amanda, mum to nine, gently explained: “He did, he didn’t suffer, he just dropped. He just had a heart attack.”
To ease the sadness in the moment, Amanda comforted her family, affirming: “I don’t think there could be a better looked-after pony.”
Together, they all said their goodbyes to Little Joe, with Amanda expressing her heartfelt feelings directly to the camera: “We’re going to miss him.”
The touching scene continued later when the eldest daughter, Raven, back from university, reunited with the family to pay a fitting tribute to Little Joe.
Reuben Owen fondly recalled, “Me and you used to spend loads of time riding that horse,” leading Raven to humorously interject, “He was responsible for me losing my first two teeth.
“I used to make him gallop in the bottom field with my hands in the air at the same time. It was my party trick until I fell off a few times.”
Amanda later voiced her worries, stating, “Raven is really upset about losing Little Joe. He has been a continual presence in her life.”
Rueben, Raven, and Miles then decided to honour Little Joe by creating a memorial from a tree stump. “It’s going to go up where Joe is buried,” said Raven.
As the Owens family gathered around Little Joe’s final resting place, Amanda took a moment to teach her youngest about the cycle of life as it concerns pets, including their beloved pony, Tony.
She explained: “Having pets is part of it; the minute you take on responsibility for a pet, even like Tony, it is for life, isn’t it?”
“And eventually, all life will come to an end, right? Anything can die; life is truly a fragile thing.”
