Our Yorkshire Farm’s Amanda Owen says ‘it’s hard’ as she’s forced to make decision

Amanda Owen opened up about feeling pressure when making decisions for Anty John’s farmhouse in the latest episode of Our Farm Next Door

In a recent episode of Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive and Kids, Amanda Owen reflected on the “pressure” she felt when making decisions about their farmhouse, Anty John’s.

The Yorkshire Shepherdess, who rose to fame on Our Yorkshire Farm, which is airing repeats this weekend, discussed how the renovations were progressing with Anty John’s.

Providing an update, Amanda began, “The house is, in a way, split in two. Basically, the house end is listed. The barn end is not listed. So the main house needs to be done with blind plaster, and the barn end, we can just plasterboard and skim it. It’s a faster, quicker, easier, cheaper job.

“So that’s all happening. There’s been a real shift now in where we’re at with the whole building project. We’re now at a stage where it is about the interiors and basically how you’re going to style it.”

Amanda then met up with Simon, a lighting consultant, who presented some lighting options, but things didn’t get off to a promising start, reports the Express.

The first two lighting options weren’t to Amanda’s liking. She described the first as “too modern” and the second as making her feel “sea sick”. She said, “I’ll tell you something, it’s incredibly interesting, but I feel like that is far too much out there for this place.”

Reflecting on the pressure she experiences, Amanda went on, “There’s a bit more sort of onus and pressure on me to kind of make decisions, and that’s really hard.”

She added, “I don’t know quite what I am doing, so what I am doing is relying on other people to come up with suggestions whilst I say, ‘No’.”

Elsewhere in the episode, Amanda and Clive announced the heartbreaking death of their beloved dog Chalky. Amanda fought back tears as the Owen family gathered around to lay their dog to rest. Their daughters even recited a poem for their cherished pet.

“When the children came running out of the house door saying that Chalky had passed away, they were absolutely bereft, and they knew it was coming, and I knew it was coming,” Amanda recalled.

“But still, just to see her laid there, as peaceful as anything and still warm, it pulled at your heartstrings.” She added, “No, she’s had a good life.”

Clive reflected, “Oh, it’s good old Chalkie. She’s gone, but not forgotten. She’s lived a great life, and she’s been a great friend to us all. There she’ll be, and we’ll remember her there, won’t we?”

Our Yorkshire Farm is available to watch on Channel 5 and Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive and Kids is available to watch on All4.
