The Curse of Oak Island

Mysterious Tunnel Discovered in Oak Island’s Money Pit: Could It Lead to Buried Treasure?

The relentless search for Oak Island’s legendary treasure has taken an unexpected turn with the discovery of a previously unknown tunnel deep within the Money Pit area. Treasure hunters Rick Lagina and his team uncovered the structure nearly 100 feet underground while excavating their latest shaft, AC-1.

The team, which had expected to reach man-made workings at 145 feet, was surprised when excavators hit wooden timbers much earlier than anticipated. “That looks like an old timber,” said metal detection expert Gary Drayton, examining the structure. Notably, the wood bore no iron fasteners, leading to speculation that it may date back centuries.

The excitement grew when a large iron spike was found in the excavation spoils. A subsequent scientific analysis by expert Emma Culligan confirmed the artifact was hand-forged, dating to at least the mid-1700s, possibly even earlier. The spike’s English origin and craftsmanship fueled theories that it could have once been part of a treasure chest or vault.

Further investigation linked the findings to historical records of 17th-century explorer Sir William Phips, who famously salvaged silver and gold from the Spanish galleon Concepción in 1687. Researchers believe that a portion of Phips’ treasure may have been hidden on Oak Island by high-ranking Freemasons, including Andrew Belcher.

“This could be evidence of treasure being hidden here centuries ago,” said historian Doug Crowell, reinforcing the theory that Oak Island’s treasure mystery dates back much further than previously believed.

With this discovery, all eyes are now on a newly identified cavern—dubbed Aladdin’s Cave—located deeper within the Money Pit. The team hopes that further excavation will reveal what secrets, if any, have been buried beneath Oak Island for generations.

As anticipation builds, the Lagina brothers and their team remain determined to uncover the truth behind one of history’s greatest treasure hunts. Could they finally be on the brink of solving the Oak Island mystery? Only time will tell.
