The Curse of Oak Island

OAK ISLAND RETURNS: LAGINA BROTHERS LAUNCH NEW CHAPTER IN 230-YEAR TREASURE HUNT

After twelve seasons of mud, mystery, and magnificent discoveries, The Curse of Oak Island is back. The History Channel’s long-running docu-series returns tonight, November 4 at 9 p.m. ET, for its thirteenth season—promising deeper digs, higher stakes, and the most advanced technology yet in the search for the island’s legendary treasure.

THE COMEBACK OF THE CENTURY

The new season opens with the Fellowship of the Dig—led by brothers Rick and Marty Lagina—re-uniting on Nova Scotia’s fabled island to resume their decades-long pursuit of answers. Season 12 left viewers reeling after tests revealed unusually high concentrations of gold and silver in underground water samples. Those results reignited belief that a vast hoard—perhaps part of the Knights Templar’s mythical riches—could rest beneath the Money Pit.

Armed with that data, the Laginas are reopening dig sites with upgraded drilling systems, advanced sonar imaging, and 3-D subsurface mapping. Their mission: to determine once and for all whether Oak Island hides a trove of gold—or simply centuries of legend.

NEW FRONTIERS, OLD MYSTERIES

Among the new areas of focus are Lot 5, where strange stone formations may mark man-made structures; the Garden Shaft expansion, where a hidden tunnel awaits exploration; and the so-called “Baby Blob,” a zone rich in metallic traces. Scientists believe these findings could lead to chambers never before accessed.

Meanwhile, field archaeologist Laird Niven, metal-detecting ace Gary Drayton, and engineer Craig Tester return to lend their expertise. Long-time viewers can also expect appearances from Alex Lagina, Jack Begley, and heavy-equipment operator Billy Gerhardt, whose machines have become characters in their own right.

GLOBAL CLUES, ANCIENT LINKS

Season 13 broadens its scope beyond Nova Scotia. The team is set to journey across Europe in search of documentary and architectural connections to the Knights Templar. Historical manuscripts, ship logs, and relics bearing the same symbols found on the island will come under scrutiny. Could this be the year Oak Island’s mystery is traced to medieval Europe?

EPISODES REVEALED

The History Channel has confirmed the first four episode titles:

  1. The Comeback – The Fellowship reopens the Money Pit with new technology.

  2. Billion Baby – A discovery hints at treasure of unimaginable value.

  3. Medieval Intentions – Evidence links the island to the Templars.

  4. The Smoking Gun – A find that may prove the legend real.

The season is expected to run eight to ten episodes.

SCIENCE MEETS LEGEND

Producers say this year’s approach blends cutting-edge science with historical storytelling. Soil and groundwater analysis, sonar mapping, and 3-D modeling will allow viewers to see the island’s hidden architecture for the first time. “We’re closer than ever to bridging folklore and fact,” says Rick Lagina in a preview clip.

HOPE, HEART, AND HISTORY

After more than a decade of searching, the Lagina brothers remain driven not only by the promise of treasure, but by the pursuit of truth. “It’s not just about gold,” Rick told The Herald in a recent interview. “It’s about fulfilling a promise to history.”

Whether this season finally breaks the island’s centuries-old curse—or simply adds another chapter to its legend—one thing is certain: the world will be watching.
