OAK ISLAND TREASURE HUNTERS MAKE STUNNING DISCOVERIES: GOLD TRACES AND ANCIENT TUNNELS FOUND
OAK ISLAND, NOVA SCOTIA — For over 225 years, Oak Island has been shrouded in mystery, drawing treasure hunters from around the world in search of its fabled riches. Now, brothers Rick and Marty Lagina, stars of the History Channel’s The Curse of Oak Island, may be closer than ever to unraveling the island’s secrets.
Recent explorations at Smith’s Cove revealed traces of gold glimmering in the water, reigniting hopes that the legendary treasure might finally be within reach. Adding to the intrigue, the team discovered a centuries-old hand-carved ladder leading into a water-filled tunnel, raising questions about who built it and what lies beyond.
“The discovery of gold in the water was incredible,” said Marty Lagina. “It suggests there could be more hidden beneath Oak Island.”
The search expanded to include several high-interest sites, including a location the team dubbed the “baby blob,” a suspected area where treasure may be hidden beneath 95 feet of soil. Drilling at borehole DN 11.5 revealed a hollow cavity nearly 1.5 feet wide at 90 feet deep. Core samples recovered fragments of wood, later confirmed by metal archaeologist Emma Culligan to contain traces of gold.
“This confirms we’re on the right track,” Culligan explained. “The presence of gold, combined with these ancient timbers, indicates prior activity on the island, possibly by earlier treasure hunters or secretive groups.”
Meanwhile, exploration at Lot 26 yielded an ancient stone wall, while historical insights from surveyor Fred Nolan’s son Tom shed light on structures such as Nolan’s Cross and an unusual well filled with pottery shards. These findings hint at connections to historical groups, possibly including the Knights Templar, whose legendary treasures have long fueled speculation about Oak Island.
Advanced technology, including sonar scanning and drilling, has allowed the team to investigate potential tunnels and flood systems believed to protect hidden caches. Recent work has revealed air pockets and voids beneath the island, raising hopes that man-made tunnels and possibly the long-lost money pit could soon be accessed safely.
Over the decades, six treasure hunters have lost their lives attempting to uncover Oak Island’s secrets, a grim reminder of the island’s perilous history. Despite this, the Lagina brothers and their team remain undeterred, approaching each new discovery with a mix of caution and excitement.
The exploration is not only about treasure; it is a journey into history. Every artifact, from fragments of wood to ancient tools and coins, provides clues about those who came before. The team’s focus is on piecing together the story of Oak Island’s past and uncovering the mystery that has captivated the world for generations.
While the ultimate treasure remains elusive, recent discoveries suggest the brothers may be closer than ever to unlocking Oak Island’s secrets. With drilling ongoing, reinforced shafts, and advanced surveying technology, the search continues — promising more revelations in the seasons ahead.
