James May Boasts He Runs a Superior Pub to Jeremy Clarkson’s
James May has hit out at Jeremy Clarkson during a recent interview on ITV, in what is fast becoming a pub rivalry between the two former Top Gear and The Grand Tour presenters.
May became co-owner of the Royal Oak in Swallowcliffe, Wiltshire, back in 2020.
The award-winning country pub and hotel offers a “wonderful blend of traditional 18th century architecture and stylish, modern interior design”.
This helps create “the perfect rural hideaway” for those looking to stay the night or simply pop in for a quick drink, The Royal Oak website says.
Meanwhile, Clarkson has The Farmer’s Dog, which is located in Burford, only about 20 miles (40 minutes) from Swindon.
The Farmer’s Dog is well-known thanks to the Amazon Prime Video series Clarkson’s Farm.
James May hits out at Jeremy Clarkson over pub rivalry
May recently appeared on the ITV breakfast programme Lorraine, where he spoke with presenter Christine Lampard.
During the interview, the topic turned to May and Clarkson’s pubs, with Lampard asking: “Is it true you’ve been banned from Jeremy Clarkson’s pub?”
To which May replied: “Well, apparently. But I have said before that’s a bit like being banned from the golf club because I wasn’t going to go anyway.”
The former Top Gear and The Grand Tour presenter said there was no need to visit Clarkson’s pub, as he had a “better” one he could go to.
May continued: “I’ve got my own pub, which is just around the corner. I’m not going to go 75 miles to his. Especially as mine’s better.”
