Jeremy Clarkson Back in Hospital for Urgent Treatment Following Serious Health Complications

Jeremy Clarkson has once again faced a major health scare—just months after undergoing emergency heart surgery that doctors said saved his life. The 65-year-old Clarkson’s Farm and Top Gear star revealed that he was rushed to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford on 5 October after suddenly falling ill with a “mystery” condition that required urgent and extremely painful treatment.

Writing in his Sunday Times column, Clarkson said the experience left him shaken but also deeply impressed with the care he received from the NHS. “The treatment was Defcon 1 painful,” he explained. “They had to chisel me off the ceiling with a spatula afterwards and I was forced to stay the night, but it was OK.” He declined to reveal the precise cause of his illness, adding bluntly, “I’m not going to tell you what was wrong, because that’s none of your business.”

Despite keeping details private, Clarkson’s tone reflected both relief and gratitude. He praised the doctors and nurses who treated him, saying, “I genuinely couldn’t find anything to moan about at all. The doctors, the nurses and everyone I met were kind. It was all spotless. Lunch was kids’ food—brilliant—and they even made me better, for which I shall be eternally grateful.” The presenter, who is often outspoken about bureaucracy and inefficiency, admitted that his latest experience made him rethink his earlier criticisms of Britain’s public health service. “For once, there wasn’t a single thing to complain about,” he said.

This latest hospital stay comes barely six months after Clarkson’s life was in danger due to a serious cardiac episode. Back in May, he was admitted to hospital after suffering alarming symptoms that included clamminess, chest tightness, and pins and needles. Tests revealed that one of the arteries feeding his heart was completely blocked, and another was almost closed. Surgeons acted immediately, fitting two stents to open his arteries and restore blood flow.

Clarkson later revealed that doctors warned him he was only days away from a fatal heart attack when they intervened. “It seems that of the arteries feeding my heart with nourishing blood, one was completely blocked and the second of three was heading that way,” he told The Times. “If I hadn’t gone in, I wouldn’t have made it to the end of the week.” The procedure, while not painful, left him reflective. “It’s odd,” he said, “having bits of metal inside you, but you just have to get on with it.”

In the months following his surgery, Clarkson said he had made several lifestyle adjustments to improve his health. Once famous for his love of rich food, cigars, and pub beer, the TV star admitted that his diet had “come back to bite him.” He said he was trying to eat more carefully and even experimented with weight-loss drugs such as Ozempic and Mounjaro to help reduce his risk of another cardiac event. “The stents are doing their job,” he joked, “but I’ve realised I can’t just keep living like I did in my forties.”

Clarkson’s health concerns come at a time when his career remains as demanding as ever. In addition to managing Diddly Squat Farm in the Cotswolds, he continues to front Amazon Prime’s global hit Clarkson’s Farm, which recently wrapped filming for its fifth series. Between writing weekly newspaper columns, filming the show, running his farm shop, and now opening his own pub, The Farmer’s Dog, Clarkson’s life remains a whirlwind of commitments. His friends have reportedly urged him to slow down—but the famously stubborn presenter seems unwilling to step back completely.

Still, his recent brush with ill-health has clearly left a mark. Those close to him say Clarkson has been more reflective about his mortality, often joking about “cheating death twice in one year.” While he has not shared specifics about his latest illness, fans were quick to send messages of concern after his hospital comments were published, noting that it is rare for the outspoken host to speak about his vulnerabilities.

As of now, Clarkson says he is recovering well and back to work at his Oxfordshire farm, though he remains cautious about overexertion. In his trademark sardonic style, he concluded his column with a touch of humor: “I was in hospital. They fixed me. The food was great. The nurses were angels. And I’m not dead. So all in all, not a bad week.”

The incident serves as a sobering reminder that even one of Britain’s most outspoken and resilient TV personalities is not immune to health struggles. Having already endured heart surgery and another hospitalisation within the same year, Jeremy Clarkson now faces the reality of living more carefully—a challenge that may prove even greater than wrangling cows, repairing tractors, or battling Oxfordshire council regulations.
