From Rock Bottom to Reinvention: The Surprising Catalyst Behind Jeremy Clarkson’s Comeback
Jeremy Clarkson’s producer Andy Wilman has opened up about the success of Clarkson’s Farm, admitting that the former Top Gear host thought he would never have another hit
For the past four years, Prime Video subscribers have been captivated by Jeremy Clarkson’s adventures managing Diddly Squat Farm on his hit programme. The revelation comes after a recent emotional statement from the presenter.
Clarkson’s Farm rapidly gained a devoted following upon its 2021 launch, with audiences enthralled by the amusing obstacles and mishaps the former Top Gear host faced whilst attempting to operate his Cotswolds farming enterprise.
During his agricultural venture, Jeremy has received support from a team including Kaleb Cooper, Charlie Ireland, Gerald Cooper, Harriet Cowan and his partner Lisa Hogan, who have all become popular personalities on the programme.
Nevertheless, Jeremy’s veteran producer Andy Wilman disclosed that the presenter doubted he would ever achieve another successful series following his departure from the BBC motoring show.
During Wednesday’s broadcast of The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X, Andy admitted they never expected the programme’s phenomenal success, reports Gloucestershire Live, reports the Mirror.
He said: “That was absolutely out of the blue. Jeremy never thought he was going to have another hit, you know? We were done.”
When Dominic Byrne commended the programme’s excellence, Andy elaborated that their contract with Amazon for Grand Tours meant they needed to keep producing content, which resulted in separate ventures.
He added: “Jeremy went, ‘I want to do life on my farm.’ And if I had a quid for every exec who rang me and went, ‘Can you talk him out of that?'” Confessing that he telephoned the broadcaster to warn that nobody was keen on him producing a show about rural life, Jeremy admitted he couldn’t blame those who tried to talk Andy out of it.
Andy disclosed that Jeremy was worried it could turn out to be ‘the most boring thing’, but the characters featured in Clarkson’s Farm proved crucial to its success.
He added: “We didn’t see that cast coming.”
Following Clarkson’s Farm’s huge success, Kaleb has landed his own programme which he’s currently filming in Australia.
The new four-part series on Prime Video will see the television star swap Chipping Norton for life in the southern hemisphere.
Speaking about the upcoming show, he said: “I spend most of my time with the most travelled man in the world, so I got brave and booked my first ever flight to see what all the fuss was about. Australia here I come!”.
“And Australia, you’ll be gaining a new farmer for a couple of months as I discover if I can make my farming contracting business go international.”
