ITV Millionaire Hot Seat’s Jeremy Clarkson ‘really sorry’ over ‘brutal’ format
ITV viewers criticised the new Jeremy Clarkson game show Millionaire Hot Seat as they issued the same complaint.
ITV viewers appeared distinctly unimpressed on Tuesday evening, flooding social media with identical gripes about Millionaire Hot Seat.
The fresh ITV game show puts a rapid, strategic spin on the traditional format and features Clarkson’s Farm favourite Jeremy Clarkson at the helm. As the programme kicked off, the ex-Top Gear host explained how the new format would operate.
Six players would rotate through the “hot seat”, facing just 15 seconds to respond to each question, with difficulty levels escalating as they progressed.
Correct answers meant staying put and advancing up the prize ladder. Wrong answers resulted in instant elimination, with the jackpot dropping accordingly.
In an added twist, each contestant received one ‘pass’ to use throughout the game. Deploying the pass sent them to the rear of the rotation queue, allowing them another crack at the hot seat later on, reports the Express.
Passed questions had to be answered correctly by the following player to remain in contention; get it wrong, and elimination followed.
Before long, viewers flocked to X to voice a singular frustration about the programme – the lengthy deliberations contestants engaged in before answering.
One viewer remarked: “These people all like the sound of their own voices…..or think they’re on regular WWTBAM” whilst another vented: “Can’t they just answer the bl**dy question and stop talking sh**e all the b****rd time!”
One viewer quipped: “Do they realise how long 15 seconds is? Stop yapping” while another advised: “Don’t have to give a definition, just answer the question.”
Despite some criticisms, others found the format engaging, with one person likening it to “It’s kinda like a quiz show version of speed dating.”
Another fan tweeted: “#millionairehotseat quite like the format tbf.”
Throughout the programme, host Jeremy Clarkson was quick to point out the ruthless nature of the game, as contestants were swiftly eliminated.
When one contestant opted to pass their question, the next player found themselves unable to do the same for the subsequent question.
The question posed was which ingredient is not traditionally found in a Caesar salad: anchovies, croutons, garlic or feta cheese.
The contestant admitted her uncertainty and, unable to pass, took a guess. Unfortunately, her answer was incorrect, leading to her exit from the game.
Introducing the next participant, Clarkson said: “I’m really sorry, the correct answer is feta cheese. Im afraid we do now have to say goodbye to you.”
He then called for the next contestant, remarking on the harshness of the game: “If we could bring up our next contestant, please? What a brutal game! It’s so brutal.”
