Jeremy Clarkson’s funeral plans with dig at Top Gear’s James May and Richard Hammond
Jeremy Clarkson has revealed he has all the plans in place for his unusual funeral when the time comes – and he is ready to take a parting shot at his former Top Gear co-hosts. Jeremy, 65, was reacting to the incoming changes to the Agricultural Property Relief (APR).
The Clarkson’s Farm star has been left unimpressed by the changes, which will see landowners forced to pay inheritance tax if they pass on their farm to their family following their death. The changes are set to take place from April 6.
It will see the cap of 100% inheritance tax relief for agricultural and business properties reduced to 50%for any that hold value over £2.5million. The outcome will see a 20% tax rate on the excess above the amount for farmers who are looking to pass on the business to their loved ones.
Rather than sit quiet on the update, Jeremy has revealed his cunning plan. Writing in The Times, the TV star admitted he is ‘hanging on until the Labourites have gone’ to scupper the tax man. And he revealed his hopes for what happens after he dies.
He wrote: “Keep me on life support, death is too taxing… Richard Hammond gets my trousers and James May a cow — but thanks to Rachel Reeves I’ll struggle to give what I want to my children.”
Speaking of the ‘gifts’ he will leave his Top Gear co-stars, Jeremy admitted he had thought about what would be something “irritating” to give them.
Away from his assets, Jeremy confirmed he won’t be donating his organs or being cremated. And he said he wants the full 23 minutes-long version of 1973 rock song Supper’s Ready by Genesis to be played at his funeral.
Adding to his mischievous pans, Jeremy said he wants his family to bury him in the Canadian territory of Yukon. Rather than having affinities to the location, he said it was simply due to the fact it would be “seriously inconvenient” for his family.
He concluded by insisting that, if he is unable to make a decision for himself, he hopes his family and friends will keep his life support machine be ‘kept on’ if Labour are still in charge of the country.
Jeremy is presently based in Oxfordshire, where he operates Diddly Squat Farm in Chadlington and The Farmer’s Dog pub in Asthall. But it had been reported that some Welsh locals are worried that once the farming celebrity “gets wind of just how lovely Abergavenny and its wider environs are” from Richard, he could be enticed to purchase a property in the region. However, the presenter has dismissed the possibility, joking he doesn’t want to be that close to Richard.
