Oak Island episode 23 may connect Lot 8 and the Azores in a major new way

The Curse of Oak Island could be heading into one of its most important episodes of the season, with episode 23, Island Hopping, appearing ready to connect two of the show’s most intriguing storylines: the strange built feature on Lot 8 and the growing theory of a Portuguese Templar link across the Atlantic.
Marty Lagina is involved in a significant discovery on Lot 8, while Rick Lagina leads part of the team to the Azores in search of new ties between Oak Island and the Portuguese sect of the Knights Templar. That combination makes this episode feel less like a routine clue-gathering chapter and more like one that could bring separate threads into a clearer pattern.
Lot 8 has already become one of the season’s most unusual locations. Beneath a massive boulder, the team uncovered a cradle-like stone feature that appears to have been deliberately constructed rather than naturally formed. Some of the stones seem locked in place, and blue-grey clay and mortar-like material suggest sealing or reinforcement. If that structure is confirmed to be man-made, the obvious question is what it was built to protect, mark or conceal.
Marty’s involvement is notable because he tends to focus most strongly on discoveries that feel practical and testable. That suggests the Lot 8 find may have real structural importance rather than being treated as another curious but isolated detail. If the site becomes a priority for the team, it could shift the direction of the season.
The Azores trip may be just as important. The islands have long been seen as a logical Atlantic waypoint for Portuguese navigation, and this season the show has increasingly leaned into clues that point toward a wider European network rather than later treasure hunters alone. If the team finds stronger evidence there, the Portuguese Templar theory may begin to look less like a loose idea and more like a historical framework that helps explain some of Oak Island’s stranger clues.
What gives episode 23 its weight is the possibility that these are not two separate stories. The material suggests the show may be moving toward a view of Oak Island as a wider operation, not just a single Money Pit mystery. In that reading, different parts of the island may have served different purposes, from transport and storage to concealment and later retrieval. That would help explain why clues keep appearing across the swamp, the Money Pit area and now Lot 8, rather than in one single location.
If Island Hopping delivers one meaningful Lot 8 breakthrough and one convincing Azores connection, it may not solve the mystery, but it could make the season feel far more coherent. And on a show built around scattered clues and competing theories, that may be one of the most important developments yet.
