Jeremy Clarkson responds to Clarkson’s Farm criticism with witty response
Jeremy Clarkson has responded to the backlash surrounding the latest series of Clarkson’s Farm, which saw the former Top Gear host focus on his pub venture
Jeremy Clarkson, 65, has addressed the mixed reactions surrounding the latest season of Clarkson’s Farm since it premiered on Amazon Prime Video last month.
In the fourth series of the show, we see Clarkson take on a new venture as he buys a pub in the Cotswolds with a commitment to selling only British produce sourced from local farms.
The episodes chronicle what Clarkson has called another “disaster” year for farming, with incessant rain and a gentle winter complicating his most recent crop efforts.
The season sparked conversations around Clarkson’s aspirations to run a pub and the introduction of farmhand Harriet Cowan.
Other highlights from the series included health news from the much-loved Alan Townsend, a return to Diddly Squat by fan-favourite Kaleb Cooper, and some fiery exchanges with pub consultants Sue and Rachel Hawkins, all of which kept the audience captivated.
Despite the entertainment value, the fourth instalment has faced criticism for straying away from its agricultural essence, placing great emphasis on Clarkson’s foray into the pub business rather than the day-to-day of farm life, particularly after having introduced Harriet to Diddly Squat.
Since its release, social media and online communities like Reddit have been buzzing with viewers expressing their dismay about the show’s latest developments, many longing for a return to agriculture-focused content in the eagerly awaited season five.
Take, for instance, a critical Reddit discussion titled “Season 4 was more like Clarksons ‘Pub’ than Clarksons Farm”, where a fan lamented: “I watch the show for the farming not seeing someone redecorate a pub..”
Another individual struck a more measured tone by proposing: “I think the show would be a lot more interesting if they focused more on the farm, and less on the pub and other outside activities.”
A separate thread named “Season 4 felt rushed, artificial and wasn’t exciting” prompted one user to vent their frustration saying that “farming clearly took a back seat” and pointed out that, “Even when the farming was the main focus before the pub was even mentioned, or taken seriously, it felt secondary or rushed.”
These discussions have spawned numerous comments from viewers sharing a similar disappointment regarding the change in focus of the programme.
The presenter and former face of The Grand Tour, Jeremy, has now responded to any criticism. Taking to X with his strong following of 7.9 million people, he engaged with an unhappy viewer asking: “Series 4 of Clarkson’s Farm. Who do we like most? Endgame? Or Richard Ham?”
A fan commented: “Talking about the TV show, i enjoyed more when it was more farm related. The pub was as overwhelming to you as for us lol.”
Clarkson took the feedback on board and responded to the notion that the show’s focus had strayed from farming, saying: “I know what you mean but the pub IS farm related”.
Clarkson’s Farm is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
