Jeremy Clarkson reveals he’s on TikTok and here’s what he watches

Jeremy Clarkson, the former Top Gear and Grand Tour host, has shared an unexpected revelation about his TikTok habits, offering a unique glimpse into his social media world. The presenter, known for his candid and often humorous observations, revealed that his TikTok feed is dominated by content featuring one of America’s most iconic political figures: former president Ronald Reagan.

Clarkson, who resides on his Diddly Squat Farm estate near Chipping Norton in West Oxfordshire—an idyllic location that serves as the backdrop for his popular Amazon Prime series Clarkson’s Farm—explained in his Sunday Times column how the TikTok algorithm seems to have a very specific idea of what he enjoys watching.

The algorithm, according to Clarkson, has a curious way of curating his feed, relentlessly serving him clips of Reagan’s speeches. “I’m not quite sure why,” Clarkson admitted, “but the algorithm that sends me posts on TikTok has decided that what I’d like most of all is to hear the speeches of old Ron [Ronald Reagan].”

He went on to explain the stark contrast between the content that populates his feed compared to that of other TikTok users. “Other people get girls jumping up and down or people falling off their bicycles,” Clarkson observed, “but for me, it’s a never-ending stream of Reagan.”

But despite the algorithm’s strange persistence, Clarkson seems to have grown fond of it. He praised the 40th President of the United States for his remarkable oratory skills, reflecting on Reagan’s ability to connect with the American people during significant moments in history. “And God, he was good,” Clarkson wrote, highlighting one particular speech as an exemplary moment of presidential leadership.

The speech that stood out to Clarkson was Reagan’s impromptu address to the nation following the tragic Challenger space shuttle disaster in 1986. It was, according to Clarkson, “an absolute masterclass in Presidentialism.” Clarkson suggested that current political figures, including former president Donald Trump, would benefit from studying Reagan’s ability to speak to the public in times of national crisis.

Reagan, a former Hollywood actor who later became a prominent political figure, served as the US president from 1981 to 1989. He is widely celebrated for his communication skills, earning the nickname “the Great Communicator.” His speeches, especially in the aftermath of national tragedies such as the Challenger disaster, helped solidify his legacy as a master of both persuasion and empathy. His ability to handle such crises with grace and poise remains a benchmark for political leaders to this day.

While it may seem curious that Clarkson’s social media consumption is dominated by Reagan’s speeches, it’s clear that the presenter holds the former president in high regard for his eloquence and leadership. And, in his usual witty style, Clarkson also took the opportunity to offer a playful piece of advice for modern-day politicians, suggesting that they might do well to learn from Reagan’s remarkable ability to communicate during difficult times.
