Jeremy Clarkson’s Farmer’s Dog Pub Still Pulling in Famous Faces One Year After Viral Comedy Star Visit

The former Top Gear and The Grand Tour presenter purchased the historic Windmill pub in Asthall for an estimated £1 million before giving it a complete rebrand inspired by his farming life, his animals, and the success of Clarkson’s Farm. Renaming it The Farmer’s Dog, Clarkson transformed the venue into a rustic destination celebrating British farming, local produce, and his Hawkstone drinks range.
The pub itself gained even more attention after featuring prominently in the fourth season of Clarkson’s Farm on Prime Video, where viewers watched the challenges of renovating and reopening the establishment. Clarkson even joked that the site had previously been known locally as a former dogging hotspot before its countryside makeover.
Since officially opening its doors ahead of schedule in August 2024, The Farmer’s Dog has attracted a long list of celebrity guests, tourists, and devoted Clarkson fans eager to experience the now-iconic pub for themselves.
Among the high-profile visitors were former US talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, who reportedly live nearby and were seen chatting with singer-songwriter James Blunt during a relaxed countryside outing.
Rock legend Status Quo drummer John Coghlan has also been spotted at the pub on multiple occasions, enjoying drinks with his wife both last year and again more recently — further cementing the venue’s reputation as a celebrity magnet.
However, one of the most memorable visits came last May when British comedy and social media sensation Big John made the journey to Oxfordshire alongside friend Big John. The internet personality, whose real name is John Fisher, became a viral star in recent years thanks to his energetic food reviews, larger-than-life personality, love of Chinese takeaways, and his instantly recognizable catchphrase, “bosh.”
The 52-year-old shared several photos from his countryside stopover on Instagram, delighting fans with snaps outside the pub and with Clarkson’s Hawkstone Lager in hand.
In his caption, Big John wrote: “Finally made it to The Farmers Dog pub. One night in Cotswolds, so stop off here first. Big fan of Hawkstone Lager, I won’t nick the glass though. Bosh.”
The post quickly drew attention from both Clarkson’s Farm viewers and Big John’s loyal followers, many of whom praised the pub’s atmosphere and joked that the visit was a perfect crossover between two of Britain’s biggest internet personalities.
Interest surrounding The Farmer’s Dog is expected to surge once again with the upcoming release of Clarkson’s Farm season five on Prime Video. The brand-new season is set to premiere on Wednesday, June 3, with two episodes launching initially before additional episodes arrive over the following weeks.
As anticipation builds for the new series, Clarkson’s Oxfordshire pub continues to thrive as both a tourist attraction and a gathering place for famous faces, proving that The Farmer’s Dog has become far more than just a countryside watering hole.
