Piers Morgan Admits He’s ‘Irritated’ by Frequent Comparisons to Jeremy Clarkson

Piers Morgan has opened up about his growing frustration with being frequently compared to Jeremy Clarkson, the outspoken broadcaster and TV personality with whom he has shared a long and sometimes controversial relationship.

Although the two men appeared to have patched up their differences last year, Mr Morgan’s latest comments reflect the lingering echoes of past clashes. Over the years, the pair have been involved in a series of well-publicised disagreements, culminating in a notorious moment at the 2004 British Press Awards, when Clarkson, then 65, reportedly struck the former Daily Mail editor in a dramatic outburst.

Clarkson, now a prominent figure in the world of television, is best known for his work on BBC’s Top Gear, as well as Amazon Prime Video’s The Grand Tour and Clarkson’s Farm. The Oxfordshire-based star also owns Diddly Squat Farm in Chadlington and The Farmer’s Dog pub in Asthall, combining his love of farming with entrepreneurial ventures.

Despite their tumultuous history, the pair were seen together last December in what appeared to be a light-hearted reconciliation. Mr Morgan shared a festive photograph with Clarkson on social media, accompanied by a humorous caption: “Great to catch up with my fans at Christmas,” delighting followers and prompting speculation that old tensions had been set aside.

Nevertheless, the ongoing comparisons between the two men seem to frustrate Mr Morgan. In a recent post on X, he revealed: “Three people have mistaken me for Jeremy Clarkson this week, which is obviously very irritating, and nonsensical given I am so much better looking.” The broadcaster’s tongue-in-cheek remark highlights the sometimes absurd nature of celebrity comparisons, especially given the very different public personas the two men have cultivated over the years.

This isn’t the first time Mr Morgan has been linked, or even mistaken, for other well-known figures. Over time, fans have drawn humorous parallels, likening him to the ‘pigeon lady’ from Home Alone 2 or former politician Ed Balls. In another surprising twist, he revealed that someone recently asked if he was Trevor Phillips, leaving him both bemused and bemusedly amused.

As both men continue their respective careers—Clarkson expanding his farming and television projects, and Morgan maintaining a high-profile presence across multiple media platforms—the comparisons may well continue. Yet, for Morgan, the blend of irritation and humour in addressing these mix-ups reveals both a self-awareness and a willingness to engage with the playful side of celebrity life, even if it occasionally leads to exasperation.

Fans will likely continue to watch the relationship between Clarkson and Morgan with curiosity, whether as friendly banter, enduring rivalry, or a mixture of both, and these ongoing comparisons are unlikely to fade anytime soon.
